'74 Orange Rally Car

Update 10/24/2012: A reader who inspected the car recently noted that this Carrera has a replacement engine.

Posted 10/23/2012: This heavily modified track oriented '74 Carrera 2.7 is available in Austria. Interior has been heavily prepared with racing seats, full roll cage installed, racing wheel, lightweight RS style carpets, RS door panels.  A full repaint was done at some point with a secondary mirror added as well as hood pins holding down the hood. 5,600 km is on the odometer but expect at least another 100k (or two) in real mileage. No mention if original engine is equipped

'74 Bitter Chocolate RHD

The '74 Bitter Chocolate RHD Carrera has been offered for sale again in Australia, with it last last on offer last Summer for slightly more. Read the previous description for more details as nothing has really changed about the condition and remains in modified trim.

Description from the seller:

This superb example of the iconic Porsche 911 Carrera is a genuine right hand drive matching numbers car. It is accompanied with a large file of receipts and a certificate of authenticity.

Delivered new in England the car has had just four owners and previous to the current owner it was owned for 25 years. In that period the car had a full respray and new interior trim.

Purchased in 2012 and imported to Australia the car is now maintained locally by Porsche specialists. It has some cool options that give this car a very period look, the chrome surrounds on the headlights and windows really stand out against the Bitter Chocolate coachwork, factory coloured glass, Bilstein dampers and sliding roof. A lot of work has been done on this example to bring to a very high standard, the car drives extremely well with plenty of torque and smooth gear changes, the brakes a strong and the acceleration and steering precise.

There are few cars that can boast the superb engineering attached to an early 911, the era when this model began the obsession for many enthusiasts for what is arguably the best looking 911 ever made.

Offered for AUD $109,995 (approx. $105k USD).

Porsche 2.7 RS and the Pursuit of Purity

While this short video isn't directly about the Carrera 2.7 MFI model I suspect readers will enjoy watching Porsche 2.7 RS and the Pursuit of Purity as the '73 RS shares direct lineage with the Carrera 2.7 MFI.  In fact, many of the reasons the owner discusses why he loves the Carrera RS apply equally to the Carrera 2.7 MFI.

Plus, the short videos by Petrolicous are always well done.

Original Black '74 Carrera

Updated 10/17/2013: A reader pointed out this was for sale earlier this year with a 3.0-liter engine so the newly installed 911/83 engine is a correct type but unlikely to be the numbers matching example. Other changes include swapping Fuchs wheels, correct thick Carrera steering wheel.

Posted 10/17/2013: This black 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI appears to be quite original with a well preserved interior, correct looking engine bay, original owner's manual, original toolkit with most of the correct bits other than a few wrenches.  Radio is either a period replacement or the dealer/owner installed a non-Blaupunkt model when new.  Chrome mirror with black trim indicates this is an earlier to mid-year 1974 before they started painting the mirrors black.  Correct 6J and 7J Fuchs sizes but they appear to have been overly polished on the rear.  Missing some decals in the engine compartment for the fan strap, coil, etc.

No info on whether the engine is original numbers matching or not.  If you are looking for a largely original '74 Carrera this looks like one worth inspecting further, particularly given most of the recent Carreras on offer have been modified a bit.

Description from the seller:

Porsche 2.7 carrera, iniezione meccanica, 210 cv, interni conservati e originali, tettuccio apribile, assetto bilstein, motore revisionato 911/83, targhe originali, trousse attrezzi, libretto tagliandi, autovettura conservata MAI incidentata

Rough English translation:

Porsche 2.7 Carrera, mechanical fuel injection, 210 hp, and preserved original interior, sunroof, bilstein trim, engine overhauled 911/83, original plates, tool kit, warranty booklet, preserved NEVER crashed car

Offered for €90,000 (approx. $123k USD) in Italy.

Yellow '74 Carrera

Update 10/9/2013: Readers commented that this has been on and off for sale since mid-2011. Any buyer should do a serious inspection. Caveat emptor.

Posted 10/9/2013: This 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI in Light Yellow available in France. Wheels overly polished and overall lacks a bit of pop in the presentation. Looks to have been repainted in a much brighter yellow shade as Light Yellow is a much softer shade. Possibly an Italian delivery Carrera as the front turn signals are white. No photos of interior or up close engine details so hard to tell more than that. This looks to be an early Carrera as it has the RS rear flares instead of the more common SC flares of later chassis numbers.

Description from the seller:

carrera 2.7 210 cv véhicule de collection etat d'origine, moteur completement rénové, encore en rodage couleur dorigine jaune 117 matching numbers type moteur911/83 voiture européenne pour plus d'infos 0475 722 129

Rough English translation:

Offered for €79,911 (approx. $109k USD) in France.

Silver Track Carrera

One of the few Carrera produced in 1975 with the Jubiläumsmodell option which included special full tweed interior and silver paint. Numerous changes including wider Fuchs, later electric flag mirrors, racing seats, etc. No statement if the engine is original or not. To return to original will take some serious coin, but for someone who just wants a track car this might be worth considering. Poor photos make it hard to comment any more. As always, caveat emptor.
